Skua

By | August 5th, 2016|#knitsharelove, Socks, Yarn|

Hello there, Its August - somehow I blinked and its August! I think the theme for 2016 around here is going to be a general sense of shock at how fast time seems to be flying by. Last weekend I had my first trunk show in Australia - it was awesome and I was so grateful for the opportunity. Such fun meeting so many knitters - although I must admit I am looking forward to a quite weekend over the next few days. I might even tackle some of that sewing I have been meaning to do. I wanted to [...]

Interview | The Travelknitter

By | July 28th, 2016|Interviews, Travel, Yarn|

Hello there How have you been. As I am sure you can tell by the irregular posting on this blog I am still working hard at finding my feet in our new home. We are in the middle of winter and boy is it cold! Great hand knit sock weather though - you've always got to look for the silver lining. Today I have a very special interview with Larissa from Travelknitter - originally from Mebourne she now lives in London and loves travelling as well as knitting (it's all in the name I suppose) ... I used one of [...]

Yaw - an adventure in self stripe Hello there - I hope you are having a wonderful week. I am slowly sorting out the new house, unpacking boxes (it never seems to end) and getting myself back online. I have a few exciting things in the works - more about that very soon. In the meantime I wanted to share my latest release with you - Yaw. Exploring and Adoring Local Yarn

By | February 18th, 2016|#knitsharelove, #lovelocalyarn, Yarn|

Yarn Love On my recent trip to Prince Albert I picked up some yarn, it wasn’t the locally spun locally dyed yarn of my dreams but I was pretty excited to try it out. The Yarn African Expressions, a local South African brand, is spun in Port Elizabeth (just over 300 km / 200 miles) from where I am staying at the moment. So actually it turns out it is pretty local to me right now. The mill is owned by Samil that has been operating in that area since mid sixties, over the years the business has grown and [...]

Winter Warmer | New Design | Beek

By | January 27th, 2016|#knitsharelove, Designs, Yarn|

Winter Warmer | New Design | Beek It’s pretty chilly out there for many of you. I am always fascinated by how much snow can fall in such a short period of time – fascinated from afar that is, I am not generally a cold fan (odd for a knitter I know). In keeping with the need to be warm and toasty I have just released a new pattern – Beek. Worked in chunky yarn this hat will knit up in a flash, especially if you opt to knit the cables without a cable needle, leaving you and your loved [...]

Introducing Igwe | Blue Skies Club 2016

By | January 24th, 2016|Blue Skies, Socks, Yarn|

Introducing Igwe | January Blue Skies Design You may be forgiven to thinking that my love affair with socks was waning – especially with all the hat action in the last few months. Sock lovers, fear not, my first knitterly love is strong and the desire to fill the world with glorious hand knitted socks continues. Last year Joy from The Knitting Goddess contacted me about designing for her coveted sock yarn clubs – I blogged about the Blue Skies Club HERE.  At the start of January as we all eased our way into the new year the first packages [...]

Yarn Adventures | Prince Albert

By | January 22nd, 2016|#knitsharelove, #lovelocalyarn, Interviews, Travel, Yarn|

Yarn Adventures in Prince Albert, Little Karoo | #lovelocalyarn Sun rises over the Swartberg in the Little Karoo It is a fairly well documented fact that I love exploring and I love yarn – I especially love exploring that involves looking for yarn (often much to my husband’s despair – although I must say now that he has a kindle I can happily wander off for a lovely yarn exploration trip without too much bother). South Africa is a weird one for yarn – there are sheep a plenty and a fair amount of the yarn we champion [...]

Love Local Yarn

By | January 16th, 2016|#lovelocalyarn, Yarn|

#lovelocalyarn and some of my favourite podcasts about yarn... Hope you are having a wonderful January. I am settling into the new pace of life in the warmer Southern Hemisphere and enjoying extra knitting time and local yarn exploration adventures. Over on Instagram I have started a new hashtag #lovelocalyarn. I would love to see what local yarn you have discovered recently, it could be on your doorstep or as part of an adventure further afield. This is all about celebrating interesting yarn finds, yarn adventures and the fabulous fibre folk from near and far that keep our needles clicking. [...]
