Happy New Year!
I hope 2017 is treating you kindly so far. My knitting year is off to a magical start and the year promises to be an interesting adventure with lots of opportunities to connect with knitters around the world.
Today I wanted to tell you about my latest collaboration. If you are a sock knitting fan you may have seen my work with Joy from The Knitting Goddess last year. Over the course of 2016 we released a series of sock patterns called Blue Skies, as part of her annual yarn club.
I was bowled over when Joy asked me to take part in her yarn club again for 2017. This year the theme is Circles and the colours are based on the colour wheel, with added grey. If I hadn’t been sold on the sock club idea, I would have been caught – hook, line and sinker – by the ‘added grey’ bit.
The first pattern went out on 1st January and I thought you might like to take a look at these beautiful socks, knitted in a glorious shade of rich, deep red.
The Circle Club 2017
2017 | The Circle Club
a design collaboration between Clare Devine from Knit Share Love and Joy from The Knitting Goddess.
From ancient cultures to the modern day fun fair, these designs draw on inspiration from a range of diverse sources. When Joy approached me with her colour inspiration I instantly fell in love with the idea and couldn’t wait to get started with the design process. After lots of sketching I knew I wanted to embrace the circle without restricting myself to a single inspiration source.
Every two months in 2017 you will be treated to a gorgeous shaded colourway and a sock pattern inspired by colour, shape and construction.
I love to play with sock construction and each design will experiment with different ways of creating socks that fit you and are a joy to knit. Over the course of the year we will explore top down and toe up styles and a range of heel and toe constructions.
The Circle collection will feature:
- Bold striking designs that are a joy to knit.
- Clear, easy to follow patterns.
- At least two heel options included with each design.
- Fully charted designs where appropriate.
- Every chart will be accompanied by full written instructions.
- Helpful tutorials to guide you through new or unusual techniques.
You can subscribe to the March 2017 instalment of the club on The Knitting Goddess’s website.
She is taking orders for this instalment until the end of January 2017.
Falling Circles is the January sock. This pattern is exclusive to club members until March 10th when it will be released to celebrate Edinburgh Yarn Festival.
The sock is worked from the top down and features mini cables. The heel is a traditional heel flap and turn and the patterned toe is shaped as a rounded wedge. With each pattern you get alternatives for the heels and toes. I love experimenting with sock construction and I know so many of you do too.
What to expect in March 2017
In March we have a change of direction!
Toe up socks are the flavour of the month and we swap cables for a touch of lace. I love the colourway for March and can’t wait to share all the details with you on March 1st when the pattern comes out.
Will you be joining us in March for some toe up sock action?
